1.      Please retell the story Gilgamesh and discuss the symbols of this epic.

 

2.      Oedipus the King is famous for its “dramatic irony.” What does it mean?

                  Throughout the play, Oedipus tries desperately to avoid his fate, and at the same time, learn identity. How are these two goals inextricably connected?

 

3.      Summarize ONE of the following plays: The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice; The Tragedy of King Lear of The Tragedy of Macbeth. And discuss the character flaw of the hero.

 

4.      What is the difference between Christopher Marlowe’s The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Dr. Faustus and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust? Please also discuss their literary backgrounds.
